This was such a cute idea for a toy and we were all very excited to open this toy and get it moving. NOT….runs into walls, spins in circles and does not follow voice commands…Very frustrating. My husband is very mechanical and can get most things to work. This was faulty right out of the box with no fix in sight. This toy keeps coming out year after year and is a dud. Had bad reviews just after we bought this last year… Looks like the exact same Star Wars dude from several years ago with awful reviews… hummmm. Me thinks there is a huge stock of this crapola somewhere….

My son has asked for this robot for the past two Christmases. I finally broke down and bought it for him because he is getting older and this past year is more than likely the last year he will believe in Santa. I couldn’t wait to see the look on his face when he realized that Santa finally had brought him this robot, his “dream” gift! We took him out of the box, read the instructions, and inserted the batteries! We were quickly disappointed as he only does two or 3 of the commands and frequently tells us “no” by moving his head from side to side. This is a great disappointment to my son and to me who spent A LOT of money. I don’t know what to do as he has already been opened up and played with or at least attempted to be played with. This was a waste of hard earned money and my son barely plays with him because it is too frustrating!!

Cool toy. He doesn’t follow directions every time but its often enough to be a lot of fun. He works better when the background noise is kept to a minimum (like turning the TV off). The “Dance program”, “Remember Darth Vader” and “Play message” responses are especially entertaining to Star Wars fans. Once he has you trained to wait for his responses (positive or negative), he works much better. Battery life seems pretty good. Santa had been watching these for a while and finally jumped on it when it was an Amazon lightning deal before Christmas and it is well worth that price.

I can’t remember ever having so much fun with a toy! It’s like having another toddler in the house. He’ll follow your commands only if you say them correctly in the right order, but his voice recognition is amazing. He will respond to female voices as well as male and this system does not require training, except for the owner. His negative responses sound a little too much like “bastard” for me. Other than that, I enjoy his whistles and tweets immensely. I can’t believe his artificial intelligence is at such an enjoyable level for the great price I paid for him. Adding an ability to record half a dozen messages to his repitraTo make him better is to his repertoire.

I ordered this for my 12 year old son for Christmas 2009. He is a huge Star Wars fan and requested this as one of his gifts. I thought it would be a waist of money and be a toy that he would lose interest in after a few days. I was so wrong. It was his favorite gift. We were all amazed by this little robot. It is important to read the instructions and commands. My son has mastered the commands and we all have a blast with R2D2. It is really funny when R2D2 is stubborn and shakes his head no. If there is a lot of background noise he has trouble hearing the commands, but we have not found that to be a big problem.
